LPC Presbyterian Women
Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I don’t know about you all but I’m missing my friends. It has been a year since PW has held a meeting. Not only do I miss our Bible Studies but I miss our fellowship. Our church is thriving through all of this but we are missing all our friends that have not been able to attend. Our young people have kept our doors open, thought outside the box for our Lord’s Acre Sale & put on a drive thru Chili Supper that was our most successful one in a long time. We are so thankful for their service & our community that supports our endeavors. We pray that everyone gets their COVID vaccinations & feel safe to attend again. We miss you. -- Sharon
Don’t forget prayer concerns for Patricia Broullette, also sympathy for families of Bob Schlomer, Raymond Brown & Mark Dankenbring.
Thank You for your Support
Longwood held their annual Chili & Soup supper on February 6, but in an unusual fashion. January came and we just couldn’t let the cold weather pass without having some kind of event. So, we got our heads together and decided to have a drive-through Chili Supper, fashioned from our Lord’s Acre Sale last fall. The young adults and their kids pretty well ran the event, and us older folks are delighted! In all fairness, Becky Barnes and Lindsay put in a lot of time before the event, and did a great job of organizing the orders and deliveries. We ended up with more than double last year’s income, something over $1700.00. Thanks to everyone who helped, and a special thanks to all our friends and neighbors who drove by to get carryout.
Pulpit Supply
Longwood would like to recognize those who have helped, and continue to help, fill our pulpit from within our congregation since Pastor Bobbie’s retirement:
Jan. 3— “God Chose Us”, Becky Barnes
Jan. 10— “Servant Leader”, J. R. Greer
Jan. 17— “Been here before”, Becky Barnes
Jan. 24—“Respons-Ability”, Jeff Barnes
Jan. 31— “Authority”, J. R. Greer
Feb. 6—“Passing of the Leadership”, Tim Barnes
Feb. 13—(no church due to the cold weather)
Feb. 20—“The Journey”, J. R. Greer
Feb. 27—(To be determined)
Cares and Concerns
Please keep all of our church families in prayer. Remember, those who are in the nursing homes always enjoy greeting cards:
Concerns from Both LPC & RLPC:
Sympathy
We wish to extend our sympathies to the family of Raymond Brown, to his wife Tammy, to his brothers Robert, Chris, and Dennis, and to his children and all of their families.
Also, we extend our sympathies to all of the family of Bob Schlomer—his mother and father Bill and Margaret, his sister Becky, brother David, and wife Kim.
Finally, we extend our sympathies to the family of Mark Dankenbring, who passed a few weeks earlier.
All three of these men will be missed by many.

Life is too short:
Grudges are a waste of perfect happiness. Laugh when you can, apologize when you should, and let go of what you can’t change.
Sometimes you have to let go of the picture of what you thought life would be like and learn to find joy in the story you are actually living—Rachel Martin
Just because you can’t see the air doesn’t mean you stop breathing. And just because you can’t see God doesn’t mean you stop believing.
If we could spread love as quickly as we spread hate and negativity, what an amazing world we would live in.
You don’t always need a plan. Sometimes you just need to breathe, trust, let go, and see what happens.
100 years ago, everyone owned a horse and only the rich had cars. Today, everyone has cars and only the rich own horses. The “stables “have turned.
Focus more on the people who inspire you rather than annoy you. You’ll get much further in life.
Do everything with a good heart, and expect nothing in return. You’ll never be disappointed.
A minister decided to do something a little different one Sunday morning. He said, “Today, in church, I’m going to say a single word and you are going to help me preach. Whatever single word I say, I want you to sing whatever hymn that comes to your mind.”
The pastor hollered out “Grace.” The congregation began to sing “Amazing Grace, ho sweet the sound.”
The pastor said “Power.” The congregation sang, “There is Power in the Blood.”
The pastor said “Sex.” The congregation fell in to total silence. Everyone was in shock. They all nervously began to look around at each other, afraid to say anything.
Then all of a sudden, way from the back of the church, a little old 87-year-old grandmother stood up and began to sing, “Precious Memories.”
Encouragement on a dreary day:
When fear whispers doubt into our hearts, and the future seems too scary to think about, we can remember…Even when it feels hopeless, God has a plan. Even when it feels confusing, God has a plan. Even when we feel scared, God has a plan.
Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless. —Mother Teresa
When God pushes you to the edge of difficulty, trust Him. Either He will catch you when you fall or He will teach you to fly. –Toby Mac
Focus on your Strengths, not your weaknesses. Focus on your Character, not your reputation. Focus on your Blessings, not your misfortunes.
Stay away from negative people. They have a problem for every solution. –Albert Einstein
My grandmother always said:
Don’t go where you’re not invited.
Don’t talk about what you don’t know.
Don’t interfere with things that are none of your business.
Do not open the fridge in someone else’s house.
Don’t call after 10 pm
Don’t go see someone at lunchtime.
Don’t enter other people’s bedrooms without permission.
They are the rules of good manners and they still are, because manners never go out of fashion!

You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you, making you spill your coffee everywhere. Why did you spill your coffee? You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. The point is, whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out. Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which will happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It’s easy to fake it, until you get rattled. So, we have to ask ourselves, “What’s in my cup?” When life gets tough, what spills out? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? Or does anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions come out? You choose! Today, let’s work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation, kindness, gentleness, and love for others.
From Mindful Christianity
He who is pulling the oars, seldom has time to rock the boat.
God has already worked out what you are worried about.
Be selective in your battles; sometimes peace is better than being right.
10 lessons I want to Instill in My Kids:
Faith doesn’t always take you out of the problem. Faith takes you through the problem.
Faith doesn’t always take away the pain. Faith gives you the ability to handle the pain.
Faith doesn’t always take you out of the storm. Faith calms you in the midst of the storm.
A little girl wanted to know what the United States looked like. So, her dad tore a map of the USA from a magazine and then cut it into small pieces. He told her to go to her room and see if she could put it together. After a few minutes she returned and handed the map correctly fitted and taped together. The dad was surprised and asked how she had finished so quickly. She said on the other side was a picture of Jesus and when I put him back, then our country just came together.
Things Grandpa taught me:
Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
A yellow jacket is faster than a John Deere tractor.
Words that soak into your ears are whispered, not yelled.
Meanness don’t happen overnight.
Don’t corner something meaner than you.
The best sermons are lived, not preached.
Most of the stuff people worry about never happens.
Don’t squat with your spurs on.
Don’t judge people by their relatives.
Don’t interfere with something that ain’t bothering you none.
Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than putting it back in.
You can’t tell how good a man or a watermelon is till they get thumped.
Always drink upstream from the herd.
Never miss a good chance to shut up.
If you fuel your journey on the opinions of others, you are going to run out of gas. —Clergy Coaching Network
When you are going through something hard and wonder where God is, remember the teacher is always quiet during a test. Trust in the Lord
